A few months ago Fujifilm revealed its new medium format camera that also shoots video, the GFX 50S. Now they have finally unveiled all the details, including GFX 50S pricing, availability and video capabilities.

The GFX 50S uses a 51.4MP ‘Fujifilm G Format’ medium-format sensor (43.8×32.9mm), which is 1.7x the area of a full-frame sensor. The lens mount is also known as G-mount and, like all medium-format cameras, it also has a ‘reverse’ crop factor of 0.79x, so that 63mm F2.8 lens is equivalent to 50mm. This camera has a 117-point contrast-detect AF system, and you can set the focus point using the touchscreen or a joystick on the rear plate. Its NP-T125 lithium-ion battery is also rated for 400 shots on a single charge (meaning you’ll probably get many more in most real-world usage).

The weather-sealed structure is just made of a magnesium alloy and weighs just 43oz with installed memory card and battery. It has a 2.36M-dot OLED viewfinder, a 3.2-inches dual-tilt touchscreen LCD display, to which you can add a ’tilt adapter’ allowing it to tilt upward by 90° and rotated left or right by 45° (that’s a lot of tilting). On the top plate is a 1.28-inches LCD which displays current shooting settings. There are 2 SD card slots, both of which support high-speed UHS-II media.

Fujifilm GFX 50S Video Features in detail are

  • Full HD 1080p video at 29.97, 25, 24, and 23.98 fps frame rates.
  • Film Simulation Modes, like on the great Fujifilm X-T2 (Review Here)
  • ISO sensitivity 12,800
  • Claimed notable high dynamic range

Availability

That’s all about the Fujifilm GFX 50S video we know for now, but we’ll continue to keep an eye on this camera and we’re looking forward to review it in our test lab soon. For everyone who can’t wait or is hooked on the new GFX 50S system, the lenses and camera are already available for pre-order and will start shipping in late February 2017.
