Jaybird recently announced the smallest pair of earbuds the company has ever made. The new Freedom Wireless Bluetooth Buds, the 5th pair in the Freedom series of headphones, are meant to blend features of Jaybird’s sport headphones, the Freedom X line, with a much more refined look.

The “smart” headphones are designed for active people — they are resistant to sweat, and offer up to 8 hours of battery life. It can even interact with a mobile app called ‘MySound’ for iOS and Android.

Wireless Bluetooth Buds

This newest pair of Freedoms has tiny tapered earbuds that are about 20 percent thinner than the earbuds on the company’s earlier models. The buds are produced by metal injection molding, not plastic, which is rare for Bluetooth headphones just because of the potential for signal drop-out. Jaybird says it has worked around this by putting all of the technology into the 3 button remote attached to the headphones, rather than in the buds themselves.

The earpieces do not stick out at all, instead curving downward as they exit the ear to sit flush against the lower part of your lobe. Helmets are no longer have a problem. Much of the electronics have been moved out of the earbuds and into the nub-like remote which hangs below the right earpiece. The Freedom’s remote is bigger and heavier than the X2’s, but not by much.

If you are interested in purchasing these fashionable wireless headphones, they are available immediately from Best Buy or directly from website of jaybirdsport. You can choose between black, gold, blue or red — all colors are priced at $199.95.
